I swore I would never run cable in a business again. And last night I broke my promise. 4 runs of cat-5 in absolutely the most cramped attic I've ever encountered. I literally had to pull myself over rafters and around corners simultaneously on my belly. There simply wasn't enough room to crawl.

The good news is that it's done now, and other than my knees, elbows, ankle and back; nothing hurts.

All my scrapes will be covered by my suit when I perform my second wedding on Sunday. Somehow I avoided injuring my head! And the scrape from last week is gone.

I got ordained a few years ago to do a friend's wedding, which it seems I only posted about tangentially seeing as how I was preoccupied with my last really long vacation which started the day after. This weekend it's another friend who likewise hasn't posted in far too long. It's pretty easy to get ordained, you can now even do it on-line which wasn't true when I first started the process, but was by the time I finished.

It's different when it's your own business. You're not crawling in an attic for The Man, you're doing it for yourself.

And you keep saying to yourself: "I'm saving myself a thousand dollars, I'm saving myself a thousand dollars."

I'm planning to do free weddings for anyone who books a rehearsal dinner or reception at the Cafe.

On the other hand, nobody's ever paid me for performing a wedding so that might not be much incentive.

Cable Monkey!

Ever used a fishing line? Throw a line with a weight over through the rafters, tie your cat5 on it then reel it back. ;) Sounds silly but I've done it in some corporate buildings I didn't want to crawl in. There are also good tools out there for 'fishing-line' but this diy saved money. ;o)

I don't want to cable monkey or make cables any more either though. I'm not a contortionist! Only a cunnging linguist! :P

I actually have some industrial fish tape. Very useful. Especially when snaking up walls.

But the runs were ~30 feet with no straight shots over 8.

And although I make a great cable, I'll be buying all mine just so I don't have to :)
